Extensive pressure from Hindus has forced London's BlagClub to back down over the display of Hindu deities in its premises. Unfortunately this outcome was only reached after some rabble decided to take matters into their own hands and attempted to attack the club premises.

Several Hindu groups and individuals had been campaigning against BlagClub after receiving complaints from Hindu clubbers over the extensive use of images of Lord Ganesh and Goddess Lakshmi in the nightclub's interior décor.

Although initially adamant that the images would not be removed, the management of BlagClub have arranged for meetings with representatives of HHR and other organisations involved in the campaign, to resolve the issue. They have signalled that they may be willing to remove the contentious images.

Pat Bertelsen, 40, the co-owner of BlagClub said: "We have had a brick thrown through our neighbours window, have had a few e-mails and seen a petition by the Hindu groups. Obviously the way Hindus perceive their religion is rapidly changing. So we must change along with this. We will discuss various alternatives during the meeting. In the end, if they have to be removed, they will be. They were never intended to upset or offend religious sentiments."

The organisations involved in the campaign have distanced themselves from the violence. Arjun Malik, spokesperson for Hindu Human Rights said: "There are hot heads around who resort to violence, but we condemn any such acts."
