Think tank alleges British MPs involved in promoting evangelism in India

Hindu Voice UK, December 2006

Earlier this year, Hindu Voice UK carried a story about the controversy surrounding Indian 'anti-conversion' legislation that was passed in the state of Chhatisgarh, and how a group of 16 British MPs published a letter of condemnation against India as a result.

A report released last month makes the shocking allegation that these MPs may have had financial incentive to do this. The report, titled "Conversion and Anti-conversion in India Today" was edited and compiled by Mrs Anuja Prashar (right) of Transnational Identity Investments, an independent network of academics and professionals from across the globe.

The report, which is over 80 pages long, alleges that certain MPs receive funding from Christian charities and groups who have been responsible for spreading communal disharmony in India, targeting the poor and vulnerable sections of society for conversion, spreading anti-Hindu propaganda and even outright violence. It should be noted that if the same thing had happened in India or other developing countries, the international media would have called it corruption.

This report and the worrying events surrounding it has led Hindu leaders in the UK to call for discussions with Ruth Kelly MP, the minister responsible for Community Cohesion.
