The Trishul Gallery Hindu Voice UK, April 2007 The trishul (trident) is famed amongst Hindus as the weapon of Lord Shiva. It is one of the most common Hindu symbols, and is especially carried by sadhus and sannyasis, as Lord Shiva is the ideal role model for those living that mode of life. Spiritually, it is said that the trident pierces the veil of illusion that keeps us away from God, and that the three spikes represent Gnana (knowledge), karma (action) and bhakti (devotion) as the means to achieve this. Trishul is also the name given to India's surface-to-air nuclear missile.
