Hurley and Nayar had allegedly drunk alcohol prior to the Hindu wedding where religious rites were going to take place. They had supposedly acted innappropriately near a sacred fire. Nayar was photographed wearing leather shoes during the actual ceremony. It is said that the father of the groom, Vinod Nayar, was asked to leave from the marriage proceedings after raising objections. He has testified against his own son to the courts, and says that on the day of the wedding his son ignored and acted ashamed of him, treating him as a second class guest while trying to impress the rich and famous guest. It's an offence punishable by three years in jail to "outrage" any group's religion with "deliberate and malicious intention" according to India's penal code. The lavish ceremony was exclusively covered by celebrity magazine Hello!, which reportedly paid £2.0-million for the rights where pictures of this behaviour was cited. A fuming resident of Jodhpur decided to take legal action where they hired lawyer Hastimal Saraswat who says "I am attempting to bring someone who was present at the wedding before the court". "Liz Hurley and Arun Nayar insulted Hindu tradition and I want them to be severely punished," Vishnu Khandelwal, a resident quoted. Hindu Voice UK comment: The real violation of Hindu customs that took place was Arun Nayar treating his father and other blood relatives worse than other "rich and famous" guest at the wedding. We don't think this is a matter for the courts, but is very shameful nonetheless. |
