Gallery: Life along the banks of Mother Ganga

Hindu Voice UK, July 2007

A recent United Nations report has suggested that if global warming continues at its present rate, the River Ganga could disappear within just 30 years. The River Ganga has been the epicenter of Hindu civilization for at least the past 3500 years (since the Saraswati River’s demise), and carries important cultural, historical and spiritual significance to Hindus. Furthermore, more people depend upon it for their livelihood than any other river in the world, with the sole exception of the Sindhu. This gallery shows the vibrant life and culture built around this great river.
