East London's Kerala Festival

Hindu Voice UK, March 2006

On the 24th and 25th of February the Malayalee Association of the UK (MAUK) in conjunction with the London Borough of Newham held a large and colourful celebration of Kerala's culture, titled "Experience Kerala: The Newham Way".

The event took place at Newham Town Hall. Over five thousand people attended the two-day event. The program included classical Indian music, a fashion show, an Ayurvedic stall, free samples of Kerala's cuisine, demonstrations of Karaliyapayat, (India's prime martial art which is native to Kerala) and much more.

This event marks an important achievement for the Malayalee community of Britain, which is relatively new to the country compared with some of the other Indian communities here.
