Besieged with injuries, Tendulkar seeks divine grace

Hindu Voice UK, May 2006

An injury besieged Sachin Tendulkar has turned towards spirituality to help him overcome his ailments. The master blaster had to miss out the recent seven-game one-day series between India and England, and is going to sit out of the West Indies one-day series too.

Tendulkar concluded a two-day religious visit on May 8th, in which he visited religious sites in Karnataka. Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala and the Kukke Sri Subramanya Temple were the two sites he spent most time at. At the latter, he had various pujas and rituals performed on his behalf by temple priests, including 'Brahmachari Pooja', 'Naga Pratishte' and 'Sarpa Sanskara', in order to help remedy the Naga Dosha (a planetary ailment) that he suffers.

Tendulkar recently had to be operated upon for his long-standing shoulder injury. Even before that, his form was well below par. He is now said to be on the road to recovery, and hopes to be back in form soon. Understandably, the religious visits generated a lot of media interest in cricket mad India. The public desperately want their star performer back in top form.
