Yantra Gallery

Hindu Voice UK, June 2006

The various Gods and Goddesses of Hinduism represent divine principles or energies. The deities are usually represented and invoked through beautiful physical forms, which we typically see adorning Hindu homes and temples. However the anthropomorphic form is not the only way that the deities can be represented and worshipped. Each deity also has a sound (mantra), as well as a geometric form, called a yantra, which represent the deity just as much as the physical form. They can be thought of as the "subtle form" of the deity. Yantras are used for visualisation and meditation tools, to help connect to the energy and grace of the deity, as well as in astrology, to ward off negative planetary influences. This gallery shows some of the popular yantras.
