Sachin |
Growing up, Sachin had to regularly endure one of the worst aspects of 'youth culture' - bullying and victimisation. He would often go home with cuts and bruises, being a favourite target of local thugs. Rishi was a family friend of Sachin's, a couple of years older and was known as a bit of a 'tough-guy'. One day, Rishi saw Sachin on the street, clearly looking as if he had taken a beating. Sachin explained what had happened. That was the first time Rishi had heard of Sachin's bullying problem. He was quite shocked, and offered to sort it out. |
Rishi |
|
Rishi,
together with some of his friends, confronted the individuals responsible
for making Sachin's life hell, and told them that if anything further
happened to Sachin, they would have to answer to him. Some of them
defied Rishi, continuing to pick on Sachin. This led to a great deal
of fighting, in which Rishi usually came out on top. Soon, the bully's
left Sachin alone, realising that it was now too much trouble picking
on him. For the first time in years, Sachin felt free and safe in
his neighbourhood. One day, Rishi knocked on Sachin's door. He wanted a favour. It turned out that Rishi had been involved in a pub brawl in which an individual had ended up in a coma. Rishi had been recognised by witnesses as one of those involved in the fight. This could get him in a lot of trouble. Furthermore, Rishi was already on probation for another offence. This greatly increased the likelihood of facing a jail sentence over the incident. Rishi desperately needs a credible alibi as to where he was that night. Sachin could provide that, by saying that Rishi was at his flat on the night in question. Rishi said that he felt bad asking Sachin to lie to the police, but seeing that he had helped him so much in the past by putting an end to his bullying nightmare, he owed it to Rishi to save him this once. What
should Sachin do? On one hand, he hates lying, especially when it
could land him in big trouble if the truth ever came out. And looking
at Rishi's actions, he had hurt somebody real bad. On the other hand,
Sachin felt indebted to Rishi for helping him during his childhood.
Indeed, Sachin had been a major benefactor of Rishi's tendency to
get involved in fights. - Provide the alibi, without a doubt - 30% - Provide the alibi, hesitantly - 12% - Refuse - 26% - Undecided - 32% |
